NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING ON A
PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO THE VERMILLION COUNTY UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE
Notice is hereby given that the Vermillion County Area Plan Commission, on the 12th day of November, 2026 at 6:00pm will hold a public hearing on a text amendment to the Unified Development Ordinance that will regulate any new carbon sequestration projects in the county. This amendment would not impact the State of Indiana carbon sequestration pilot project.
This public hearing will be held in the Auditorium at the:
Vermillion County Courthouse,
255 S Main St.,
Newport, IN. 47966
The draft text amendment will be available for public examination on or before November 2, 2026 at 9:00am at the below address and website. If you are unable to attend the public hearing or otherwise wish to provide comment, please submit written statements to the Area Plan Commission Office by email or at the address below prior to 3:00pm on November 12, 2026. Said written support or objections will be entered into the record and will be considered at the public hearing.
The proposed amendment would apply to all unincorporated within Vermillion County, Indiana and the City of Clinton.
The Area Plan Commission may continue the matter to a future date and time, or may vote on the proposed amendment immediately following the public hearing. The Area Plan Commission is permitted to amend the text amendment prior to voting on the matter. The Area Plan Commission will vote to certify its recommendation to the County Commissioners for final action in accordance to IC 36-7-4.
The text amendment would become effective immediately following the County Commissioners’ vote to adopt the ordinance amendment per their rules.
